Why are there so many translations of the Bible?
There are three different types of Bible translation:
- Formal equivalency: word for word translation (e.g. King James, New King James, New American Standard Bible, English Standard Bible)
- Functional equivalency: thought for thought translation (e.g. New Living Translation, Good News Translation, New International Version)
- Paraphrase (e.g. The Living Bible, The Message)
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – John 8:31-32 (NIV)
How do we hold onto God’s Word? By making it the foundation of our lives.
The quality of your life will be determined by the quality of your foundation.
“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.” – Matthew 7:24-25 (NLT)
Things people build their lives on:
